Step 1. The Entrepreneur bug

Hey Gang,

I’m back.  I told you I would tell you a little about my story today.  So here we go.  My background is in engineering.  I worked in Corporate America for 21 years before the Big Wigs decided to close down operations in my city in October of 2013.  Prior to that I got the itch to start my own business.  I did not know exactly  what I wanted to do but I knew that living in Cube City (That’s what we called the office) was not what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.  I was open for an opportunity.

One day a friend of mine invited me to come to a hotel meeting to look at a presentation about Pre Paid Legal Services, now LegalShield.  I had actually brought the membership back in 2003 and kept it for about 6 years or so and somehow let it go.  The membership was awesome and actually saved me thousands of dollars.  At the time that I first saw the presentation I was not open to become an Associate and market the product but now I was open.  It was tax season and I was also looking for more deduction and learned that with a home based business I could actually write off things too so I joined the business.

We had an awesome team and my business grew rapidly.  Every time I went back to the weekly Business Briefing I had advanced another rank.  I made quite a bit of money in a short period of time and was very pleased.  But, over time my warm market (family, friends and Fraternity Brothers) dried up and I was no longer advancing and making sells like I did at first.  So I needed a fresh source of leads to keep my business going.  We did all kinds of things to get more prospects, including walking the mall and shoving our business cards into shoppers hands.  There had to be a better way!

More next time.
